Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) is home to world-renowned products even though the world does not always recognize it. Insulin, modern contact lenses, parachutes, the Rubik’s Cube, Skype, and several of the world’s leading computer anti-virus companies all originated in CEE.
These achievements illustrate the potential for CEE to make valuable contributions to the global marketplace and also highlight the need for investors to pay close attention to the region.
The majority of CEE countries have become members of the EU, NATO, and OECD, and the general political, economic, and business environment has improved significantly in the last 30 years.
Notwithstanding the fragmentation of the region and intra-regional variations, from an investor perspective, CEE as a whole is attractive and has the potential to generate large and growing companies.
The target market for CEE companies, however, should not end at regional or European borders; the entire world is their potential marketplace.
